Thread: What kind of board do you ride and why do you ride it?

  1. 9' Driftwood noserider (all aound magic)
9'4" Harbour Terry Simms Performance board
9' Donald Takayama Noserider (bad ass beater)
8'6" Stewart HydroGlide (paddles like a 10'er but I only like it on super small days)
7'6" Driftwood funboard (wish i had gone with something a little more oldschool than this board. there's not enough foam in the nose)
    it's fun to see this!
Above is my post from last August. Since then,
I've gotten into much shorter boards. For the last month I've been riding a 5'10" Larry Mabile keel fin fish almost exclusively. I am in love with the skatey glide.

    Grom's first board

Bought my 8 year old daughter her first new board! 7'0" TN Shapes (local shaper), 20 1/2, 2 3/4. Nice rounded nose so I told her it's like a longboard and she'll be riding the nose just like Rell Sunn (her idiol right now) before she knows it! She's as stoked about it as the smile on her face says. My smile was equally as large

LOL - thanks OB! Yup I'm pretty happy with her - think I'll keep her around for awhile. Can't wait until she can surf with me like Red and her daughter

Good shot, that is like a "top of the mantle" type of picture!

It looks like she is actually getting some warmth out of the board!

Thanks Soup, Red andAwe! The board has taken up residence in her room. It's nice to see her so stoked on something that's such a huge part of my life.

LOL - and it does seem like she's enjoying the "warmth" from the sun!

    new "what I ride"

I accidently found a replacement for the 9-0 Wave Tools (which has long since been given to my best friend for his herculean efforts associated with my last relocation). As soon as I saw this board I new that I had looked for it for as long asa I can remember. It is Indeed ... magic.

    The specs:
    Lenth...9-0
    width...22.5
    Nose...14.75
    Tail...13.5
    Thickness...3.125

Gorgeous gorgeous board Geezer! I have a 7'2" Becker that I absolutely love as well. Maybe when I'm in Cali in May we can get the Beckers together for some play time

Did I answer this yet? I didn't think so .

I ride the 10'4 when it's nice, peeling, and beautiful, but when it's choppy, I've been pulling out a new experimental design that Peter just finished. It's 9'2, but fat and round, so we nicknamed it the "Piglet". It has at least as much paddling power as a 10' board, and it's quick and responsive - extra 2" of tail rocker, probably, and a narrower nose than most longboards. Noserides well in crappy waves, and you can turn it quickly from the nose, even.

I rode it in Costa Rica for the first time, and wasn't too happy with it then, and when it's long, peeling lines, I like the 10'4 (and Peter's making me a new 9'8 noserider, so I'll probably ride that more, too) but for shorter, choppier waves that I should probably just haul out the shortboard, I've been really happy with the Piglet.

Paradox, I scored it from a guy who bought it new but only rode it a few times before deciding to add another longboard to his quiver. My timing was good. He posted it for sale on Harbours website. I emailed him and took it off his hands just a few hours later. It was flawless.

HB, yeah, it's a shame. That sand is also near the fire pits so has plenty ash mixed in. No excuse for the fuggin' trash tho. It's also heavily trashed due to the recent first rains that absolutely trashed our beaches.. 6 months of socal rubbish washed onto our shores overnight. I didn't surf for over a week.

OK, hold your breath and plug your nose., for I am about to show you the dark side.

That was three weeks ago. The top pic is Bolsa Chica at the high tide line. The other three pics are of the Santa Ana Riverjetties at Newport.
