    Anything from TOOL to CSN&Y.....

Larger days call for something like "Hooker With A *bleep*", while smaller, more mellow days may be a call for "Just A Song Before I Go."

But radio days are usually KTYD (99.9), The Octopus (95.9) or KLOS (95.5). All classic rock stations.

Best pre-surf song for me is One Way Out…Allman Brothers. Also good pre-surf, John McLaughlin, Al di Meola, Paco de Lucia live in San Francisco…Ramones…or Linkin Park.

Post surf – Coldplay…Yes….Coltrane….or Stan Getz.

For me it depends upon the surf if its mellow than somthing like "Jack Jonson" or that "Live Acoustic Roots" but if its crankin than "Linkin Park" or "50 Cent" whatever rocks my boat at that time

RED , I think we are twins from another planet! I lerve that song

Pretty much any Dead song will get me going, though Eyes of the World is a very nice early morning tune, as is Uncle John's Band. Anything Allmans, Dead, etc. is good for me

This is a tough one to pick since there are just so many moods and songs to go with them or create them or enhance them or... well ya know!

Always some Jimi Hendrix - Axis Bold as Love, Burning desire, Tax Free; Rory Gallagher - Crest of a Wave, Bad Penny; Rob Zombie on those heavier winter days on the shortboard, Van Morrison for some cruisin mellow, Avenged Sevenfold for some more slash & burn on the shortie, Joe Satriani can cover any surf mood that exists.

I've been gettin' into some old stuff lately - Monterey Jazz Pop Festival '68, some Humble Pie, Buffalo Springfield, Black Oak Arkansas, Jim Carrol Band, The Dead, Cream.....

ahh, the list just goes on and on...

    Peace...

Please let's not get into politics here

I don't care too much for Green Day in general. My brother had their album "dookie" and played it way too much, kind of the way the radio is playing "american idiot".

I listen to all kinds of music. Being a classically trained (opera) singer, I of course listen to classical music, however it doesn't do the job to get me pumped up for a good sesh.

    So....

    For big days-
Almost anything heavy, including but not limited to:

Metallica, any 80's metal, Linkin Park, etc...

    For longboarding-

Eagles, Duncan Sheik, Boston, America, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Restless Heart, etc....

The presets on my radio are always set to Classic Rock and Jazz(not smoothe jazz/the wave)

Friends, unless something is way out of line, I, as your humble moderator, have no issues with a mention here and there that is of a political nature. Nothing in Awe's - or anyone else's posts - is of a nature that I would define as offensive. At last check, we live in a democracy and as far as I am concerned, "freedom of speech" is fine with me, so long as we're within reason (ie: not promoting nazis or hate rhetoric).

And on a political note, those of you not from San Diego, may not be aware that Donna Frye, wife of Skip Frye, is running for Mayor of San Diego...so we might, after a verrrry long time, have a mayor who gives a crap about the environment, beaches, the condition of our oceans, etc. Very exciting stuff if we can pull it off from the other two dolts running! Fingers crossed

    Hope she succeeds OB!

    Helen, I'm voting for Kerry.

Just finished listening to a run of Humble Pie, Roxy Music and Talking Heads.

Lots of tunes loudly cranking in my home this week - lot's of rain and polluted ocean, so getting some long overdue house cleaning done. Not a minute too soon either, or I would have been posting a story of "The Dustball That Ate My Surfboards!" or something along that line.

It isn't that I don't enjoy political discussion or disagreement (I love to argue), it is that I go surfing and come here to get away from that. It was also a suggestion, not a command. The overall subject matter of this whole site seems to me to be about things not political (unless they affect our ocean) and the mood mellow. I like it that way.

I'm not trying to be a bum-out, that's why I began the suggestion with "please" and ended it with a .

    and about jazz....

Big band rocks, especially Menard Ferguson,
    Miles Davis is king,
and all things latin work for big surf

I don't think I would like that very much as it would be too distracting for me - I use all my senses when I am out there and losing one of them would severely mess me up more than I already am messed up.

Others may want/like to be able to do that though....

Listen to music while you surf....I wouldn't want headphones on or anything, but if you could hear it from the shore that would be cool sometimes. Now, North Carolina...you boys can just drive your pickups onto the beach and crank it up

Okay, this is what I listened to yesterday....

    (and remember, at least)

    On the way there:

    Money - Pink Floyd
    Aenima (album) - TOOL

    On the way home:

    Aenima (title song) - TOOL
    Brown Sugar - Rolling Stones
"sunset" - creator (I turned the stereo off and just drove the last few miles enjoying the sunset and silence)
